Cz P09 Review - So I got an email asking me if I would like to test the CZ P-09 and I thought that surely the person emailing me is not a regular reader of my blog or would know that I am a CZ. I'm obsessed. Pistols from the Czech Republic are "world class" in my opinion. They are well designed, reliable, very accurate and still one of the best values on the firearms market.
The CZ P-09 also offers shooting options. The pistol has a traditional double action with a cocking lever to safely lower the hammer in a loaded chamber, but, with a few simple steps, you can remove the cocking mechanism and replace it with the one supplied by the manufacturer. Convert your P-09 to a single-action pistol by swapping out the manual safety. . The double-action pull is a smooth 10.5 pounds and the single-action pull is steady at 5 pounds.

The P-09 also features interchangeable small, medium and large straps to give the shooter the ability to find the perfect fit between hand and pistol.

As you can tell from the photos, the P-09 has a polymer frame that is well built to help maintain grip from shot to shot. The pistol also uses CZ's Omega trigger system, which uses fewer parts than its original CZ 75 trigger system. The CZ 75 already had one of the best double-action pulls available in any pistol, but the Omega system provides a smoother trigger pull and, due to fewer parts, any breakage is less likely.
The P-09 also has very flat controls, as evidenced by the slide stop release and recoil levers shown above.
The pistol also has a flexing serration in front of the slide. I don't use them, but CZ has adjusted your preference if you need them.
It's clear that the P-09's design team focused on ergonomics and function. The photos above show a great molded surface on the sides of the grip frame, molded serrations on the front strap, a generously cut trigger guard, a trigger guard large enough to accommodate a gloved shooter, a smooth trigger guard and shaped A trigger that helps reduce trigger finger fatigue. During long shooting sessions and the front of the trigger guard is fixed and jagged if you continue to keep the index finger of your non-dominant hand on the trigger guard.

CZ says the sights are fixed, but the rear sight can be adjusted for windage correction, though you'll likely find it shooting on target right out of the box.
Overall, it's an excellent defensive weapon that combines intuitive ergonomics, reliability, accuracy and 19+1 rounds of 9mm. The P-09 is also chambered in a .40 caliber offering, if that's your preference, that holds 15 + 1 rounds of ammunition.
All 10 rounds at 21 feet were well centered and stayed inside the 3 inch Birchwood Casey target, touching eight of those ten rounds.
You can look at the CZ P-09 and like what you see, but still worry about how easily it will hold an 8-inch-long, nearly 5 3/4-inch-long pistol. I understand your concern, but with the right holster and cover lining, the light weight and flat controls will make this pistol easier to conceal than you might imagine, and with a 20 round capacity you can go through the day with that confidence.
