Cz Po7 Price - Coming into the gun world, I have always had a distant relationship with CZ. They always seemed like "that brand over there" that didn't apply to me or my interests. The talk in my circles was always about Glock, H&K, Sig and S&W. To be honest, the CZ P07 was what I thought of as an evolved "commie gun".
The CZ P07 represents the second generation of CZ's polymer pistol options. Back in 2012, I actually handled one of the first generation models at my local swap base. It seemed too "modern" compared to what I expected to see from CZ's offerings. I chose the FNS-9 instead.

Still, I'm kind of glad I did. Not that I really enjoy the FNS-9, but the new generation P07 offered many improvements. But before we get there, let's talk a little about CZ and how we got to this point.
Glock G17 Gen5 Vs Cz P 07 Size Comparison
I wanted to give some background on the CZ pistol and the evolution that led to the P07, as well as why my initial assumption that it was a "commission pistol" was incorrect. If you want to skip that part and go straight to the review, feel free to click here.
The bottom line is that I think the CZ P07 is a great option in the DA/SA polymer market. It is accurate, comfortable and very durable. However, it falls behind other general carry options when it comes to weight and size. While I think the P07 is a good option, definitely compare it to other quality pistols to see how it fits your needs.
CZ stands for Česká Zbrojovka, which roughly translates to Czech gunsmith. The second part of the name, Uherski Brod, refers to their location in the city. In fact, there were several Czech arsenals for the production of weapons, so the name of the city where the factories were located further distinguished them.
In 1936, the Czechoslovak government recognized the threat of encroaching Nazi Germany and moved its manufacturing facilities further inland.

The factory in Strakonis moved to the small town of Uherski Brod, 60 kilometers from the border. Production of anti-aircraft machine guns and small arms began in 1937.
The Nazis still occupied the area during the war and forced the factory to serve as a German small arms depot. After the war, production returned to a mix of military and civilian weapons.
Of course, being behind the Soviet Iron Curtain didn't help. The Warsaw Pact countries were required to produce weapons of the same caliber and to use common weapons for military purposes.
I guess you could say that the engineers at CZ have always been rebellious. Under Soviet control, Warsaw Pact countries used Tokarev and Makarov pistols, and nothing was chambered in the "western" 9×19 Luger.

Cheaper Than Dirt is actually a great piece of history about what came next, but I'll hit the highlights for you.
In 1969, CZ approached former engineer František Koki to work on a new project. They wanted a new and innovative 9mm pistol, but Soviet law prevented the company from doing so. Since František was independent and not employed by CZ, he could design whatever he wanted.
Some people out there believe that František and his brother tried to clone the Browning Hi-Power. To be fair, its design borrows many elements from John Browning's gun, but many other contemporary designs followed. I think that shows how influential JMB was.
František completed the design in 1975 and the CZ-75 was born. However, there was another problem. CZ intended to sell guns outside the Iron Curtain, which was a major problem under communist control, especially when it came to patents. There wasn't one.

Once the gun came off the screen, other manufacturers took notice. Moreover, they realized that there was nothing stopping them from reversing the design and making their own copies.
Here are some of the many clones produced by other countries and companies. I also included the country of origin.
The reason for all the clones is that the CZ-75 pistol has a highly ergonomic design with immediate appeal to shooters. To this day, I have yet to handle a pistol that feels as good in my hands as the CZ-75 design. The Beretta APX comes close, but when you look at its lines, it's no surprise where it draws its inspiration from.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, CZ could start direct sales to the rest of the world. Of course, they were behind the curve. By the 1990s, the previously mentioned companies had created a market selling essentially identical guns.

To build on their name, CZ invested significantly in their design and manufacturing capabilities, eventually achieving ISO 9001 certification in 1997. Then they started revising their designs for the new era.
Before the 2000s, CZ already had a standard lineup of pistols in a variety of sizes, including full size, compact, and subcompact. The P01 represented the first major leap in design thinking.
In 2001, CZ used its new manufacturing capabilities to create a lighter and more sophisticated pistol. The CZ P01 used a new aluminum alloy for the frame, incorporated 1913 rails on the dust cover, and had tighter manufacturing tolerances. In 2003, it passed all the strict requirements of the Czech National Police and also received the NATO action mark.
In total, the Czech police required a service life of 15,000 rounds of +P ammunition. For adoption, the expected reliability requirement is 99.8%.

A failure rate of 0.2% equates to 20 breaks per 10,000 rounds or 500 mean rounds between failures (MRBF).
According to a since-deleted press release, the P01 achieved a failure rate of 0.05%, or 7 breaks per 15,000 rounds for an MRBF of 2142. Sounds great, right?
By comparison, the Army's MRBF requirement for the modular gun program that the P320 won was an MRBF of 5000, which the P320 significantly exceeded. That's really neither here nor there, but I'm just explaining that marketing materials don't always tell the whole story.
The P01 was, and continues to be, a very successful pistol. I would love to add to my collection one day.

The existing CZ 75 Compact inherited the same light alloy frame as the P01 in a more stealthy format. They called it PCR (Police Czech Republic). It's a purpose-built pistol for year-round carry, open or concealed, and follows the same lines as the classic CZ-75 series.
The SP-01 is a large and heavy gun built around competitive shooting. It's also a capable defense gun, if not a bit bulky.
In 2009, CZ released the P07 Duty. This was the first of CZ's series of polymer pistols and featured several new innovations. The goal was to take the lessons learned from the P01 and PCR pistols and produce a modern polymer pistol with greater reliability and performance. To support this, they designed an entirely new trigger system known as the Omega Trigger.
It also included an adjustable backstrap, simplified the gun's internal workings, and improved wear components.

The Omega activation system allows the user to easily switch between the decocker or the security function. If you're like me and prefer to carry a hammer DA/SA pistol for your first double action shot, you can. If, on the other hand, you prefer a coiled-and-locked carry like the traditional CZ-75s, you can do that too.
The original P07 Duty series was not without some teething problems. There were cosmetic issues with the "frame bulge" causing the internals to sag slightly in some circumstances, although it never seemed to cause a malfunction.
CZ took those lessons and developed the larger P09 pistol with a 19+1 capacity, longer barrel, mechanical improvements and polymer rebuild. It was a hit and remains a very popular competition gun.
In 2014, CZ applied the same adjustments to the P07 series. I call the redesigned P07 Series 2.

You can tell the Series 1 and Series 2 apart by the presence of serrations on the slide at the front of the Series 2 slide. Do not rely on the engraved "P07" or "P07 Duty" to tell the difference, as distributors may order them with either them.
Let's start with the basics. I am considering a CZ P07 purchased in March 2018 with my own funds. It is a Series 2 example with forward slide serrations and other manufacturing improvements.
So how do these numbers compare to other popular carry guns? Let's take a look at the Glock 19, HK P30, S&W M&P 2.0 Compact, and Sig P320 Compact for comparison. I bolded "best in class" for each line.
From a pure specs standpoint, the CZ P07 doesn't really get anything here. It's the heaviest and widest of them all, mostly due to the beefier slide and ambiguous folding handle. You can see why the Glock 19 and M&P 2.0 are so popular to carry.

However, all of these guns are very close to each other in specs and all make good carry options. Given the strength of the field, I feel I have to justify my decision
