Unlike other CZ-75s built in the 1980s, the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow has a lighter battle spring and no fire block. This slightly reduces the weight of the trigger and thereby improves the pull characteristics of this gun. It is one of the best trigger pullers in the double-action pistol category.

The redesigned shape and mold of the grip provide more comfort when shooting. The Shadow comes with a black rubber grip, but can be ordered with thick checkered aluminum or thin aluminum panels with pieces of grip tape.

A slightly weaker recoil spring makes for easier loading. The front of the trigger guard has teeth and the rail is MIL-STD-1913 compliant, so it can accept laser and tactical light accessories.

The CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow is the result of several modifications suggested by law enforcement, military users around the world, and sport shooters such as Adam Tyc and Angus Hobdell.

It can hold the standard CZ 75 magazine or the upgraded magazine with a capacity of 18 rounds.

The sights are excellent, with fiberglass on the front and tactical Novak style on the rear. The horizontal position of the rear sight can be adjusted using the dovetail slot.

Overall, the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow is a great gun, especially for self-defense. This part allows you to shoot quickly and with a lot of confidence, making it a very good weapon for home defense. The extensive warehouse capacity is another big plus. Workmanship and appearance are also excellent. The CZ line of pistols offers good value for money and the Shadow is probably one of the cheapest you can find in its category.

If you are looking for a pistol suitable for recreational target shooting, you may want to purchase this part from a custom shop. One of the most important features of a gun used in competition is the ability to adjust the sights for more accurate target firing that the standard Shadow does not have.

This content is accurate and truthful to the best of the author's knowledge and belief and is not intended as a substitute for formal and personal advice from a qualified professional. While right-handed in all other respects, I choose to shoot left-handed as I feel it better addresses my crossover dominance. While not a true ambi pistol, the magazine release can be positioned on either side and is height adjustable for easy handling. With ambidextrous safety and a weight of almost 47 grams, it's a winner.

What I Learned Moving From Glock To A Cz 75

The Shadow 2 is my primary ranged weapon. The aiming point is natural for me, it fits my medium hands well and the weight and balance mean it gets back on target quickly. The trigger is beautiful out of the box, with the single-action pull heavy enough to provide little tactile feedback. The double-action pull is heavier and it took a little extra practice to get that first shot right where you wanted it. Unlike some of my other trigger safety rifles, this trigger did not leave my trigger finger rough or sore.

Recoil management is one of the best things about this weapon. It gets back on target quickly and doesn't feel barky or snappy like some of my other guns.

How does it feel in your hand, are the controls on this gun easy to use? (Safety, Slide Pull, Magazine Release, Trigger Pull, etc.)

I immediately replaced the stock aluminum grips with moderately aggressive G10 grips. They seem a little more grippy to me, but they don't magnify most of the weapon. Having recently ridden a few other CZ's I think I could put on some thicker grips and maybe improve my grip a bit.

As a left-hander, I immediately switched the safety and magazine release to the left side of the gun. The flat stock protection was impossible for me to activate with my left thumb, so I got a comprehensive protection that works like a dream. The slide is a bit heavier, but manageable. The slider cannot be moved. However, I learned to control it with my trigger finger or use my support hand to fire the slide. If I need to lock the slide without a magazine in it, I switch to right-handed operation.

The sights are easy to find, but require regular care. The fiber of the front visor darkens if it is dirty or too old. I clean it between cleanings and replace it two to three times a year.

The weapon itself is reliable. It's not a Glock so it needs to be cleaned and oiled from time to time to make sure it feeds properly.

He likes the factory round nose. My ammunition guy had to do some trial and error to find the ideal sizes for the wadcutter bullets I like to use, but he got it.

The removal is frankly inconvenient. To do this, the carriage must be partially pulled back and the carriage release must be pushed out at the same time. Those with reduced hand strength or small hands may benefit from a helper.

Well, at some point I'm out of ammunition and I have to stop. Also if you give it enough rounds in a short amount of time it gets too hot to hold and I have to stop.

This is a fantastic gun for basics development and improvement, for target shooting, and for those who are ready for something built for competition, but not ready to spend $4k on a race gun. This allows you to focus on skills rather than fighting with the weapon. If the aiming point and ergonomics feel good, try one out.

I highly recommend this gun for skill development, target shooting, and the lower levels of competitive shooting.

Since 2017, the Shadow 2 has been approved for Carry Optics, and CZ has begun producing weapons for that division, as the CZ Shadow 2 Optics-Ready ($1,549, cz-usa.com).

The model we received for testing was fitted with a Trijicon SRO sight. The short version is that the gun and optics worked flawlessly. We didn't have any malfunctions. The Shadow 2 was taken to the firing range by Jake Martens and myself for two separate training occasions, each of us also firing the rifle separately. Several thousand rounds were fired by the Shadow 2 during these sessions.

Based on the original Shadow 2, the OK has a slightly different sliding profile to accommodate the optical plate system.

The first field session was in early summer. In this session, all shots were taken from a starting table. While we didn't have a case ready for this shoot, we were looking forward to shooting this Shadow 2 and evaluating its performance. We shot full size USPSA steel targets, using 130-grain Federal Syntech and 147-grain SIG Sauer Match Elite loads for this shoot. Both variants went through the gun well and were accurate.

The first exercise was a forward sighting configuration, with the targets 10 meters apart and one meter apart between the targets. Both Martens and I started with markers on the table to have a consistent starting position. His four runs in this exercise had times of 3.69, 3.10, 2.96 and 2.73 seconds, while my times were 3.02, 2.83, 2.91 and 2.68 seconds. Neither Martens nor I made a mistake on this exercise. Martens shoots quite a bit in the Carry Optics division and is comfortable using a point. I shoot almost exclusively with iron sights. However, none of us had a problem finding the point with this gun and optics setup.

The second exercise was a modified El Prez. It was a top start, but the gun was still on the table. Turning and collecting
